Centuries of Overfishing Push Ecosystems to the Brink
By Mario C. Aguilera
Scripps marine ecologist and geologist Jeremy Jackson and a team of researchers provide a startling historical account of how vast populations of marine species have been decimated over centuries through overfishing. A Seismic Jigsaw Puzzle Takes Shape
By Robert Monroe
Scripps geophysicists and engineers at the Cecil H. and Ida M. Green Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Science have developed ocean-bottom seismographs that record ground movement and changes in acoustic pressure. They recently deployed and retrieved a fleet of seismographs to monitor the Oceanside Fault, 32 kilometers off the southern California coast. It is part of a network of faults that has the potential for creating earthquakes greater than a magnitude of 7.0.
