Scripps Helps Global Business Leaders Learn More about the Oceans and Earth

Scripps Oceanography is the first and only science institution to partner in a global educational alliance with the Young President's Organization (YPO).
Scripps becomes first science institution to join in an educational alliance with acclaimed professional organization.
Members of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) have raced to the top of their fields. They are the young, innovative, who’s who of today’s global business network. They’re also smart enough to know that there’s always more to learn.
In support of YPO’s mission to develop Better Leaders Through Education and Idea ExchangeTM, Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego has joined in an educational alliance with the group to provide scientific education and information to members and their families.
Scripps Oceanography is the first and only science institution to partner in a global educational alliance with YPO, a worldwide network of young chief executives and their families, comprised of more than 16,000 members and graduates in 100 countries. To join YPO, a business leader must be the chief executive of a company that meets minimum size and complexity criteria, and be under the age of 45.
In this new partnership, Scripps joins the ranks of other premier educational institutions providing world-class expertise and learning opportunities to YPO such as Harvard Business Publishing, London Business School, and Stanford Graduate School of Business.
"We pride ourselves on recruiting and associating with the best of the best," said Vicki Novikoff Barnhart, director of member education for YPO and its graduate group, World President’s Organization. "YPO is thrilled to now offer our members unique access to the best in science and research through this educational alliance with Scripps Institution of Oceanography."
The Scripps-YPO alliance launches in June with a members-only webinar presentation by Scripps oceanographer Dale Stokes. "Adventures in Oceanography" will be a global photographic journey documenting Stokes’ research in the field from the tropics to the poles. Through this webinar, suitable for all ages, Scripps aims to engage YPO members, graduates, and their families in a shared learning experience about the scientific wonders of our natural world.
Other future Scripps-YPO programs will connect members and graduates, regionally and internationally, with Scripps experts to advise on the integration of science solutions into business practices.
"YPO represents an impressive network of global leaders," said Scripps Director Tony Haymet. "Through this educational alliance, I’m pleased that their memberships will now have inroads to work with and learn directly from Scripps’ leading scientific minds, and vice versa."
