Scripps researchers are studying the interplay of the San Andreas and San Jacinto faults as well as numerous smaller ones around the Salton Sea. Red dots represent the locations of earthquakes; green lines, areas covered by the CHIRP instrument; black lines, fault lines; and gray patches represent one-time military practice bombing target sites.
